Pilates Through Life
With the rise of the popularity of Pilates in both the fitness industry and in the physical therapy setting it's no wonder we are seeing so many benefits from Pilates in all age groups.
Age Group: 13-29
A great time to find Pilates is at a young age as we are often troubled with the emotions and life changes of adolescence. Learning to breath, walk, and maneuver through life or sports in the most optimal manner has long term benefits for all. We have also seen it as an opportunity for the preteens to learn their body and how it is changing while using diaphragmatic breathing to find a meditative state.
Age Group 30's
Often the time we start having the idea or planning of having children. This age group can benefit from pilates as it helps you strengthen and alleviate common issues such as shoulder, back or neck pain caused from our modern lifestyle. Mainly composed of sitting and using a computer/phone throughout the day. Pilates also helps tremendously in learning about your pelvic floor muscles which in turn enhances our daily activities, our bedroom life and also preparing ladies for pregnancy and birth.
Age Group 40-50's
Strength training for this age group can be difficult as the idea of lifting weights and going to the gym doesn't usually fit well in our busy daily lives. Often this is the busiest we have ever been going to doctor appointments, working, seeing the (grand)kids, etc. It's a busy time where time just sores by! This is why we believe Pilates is the more ideal strength training, especially for those who have never done any sort of strength training before. We focus on a full body workout balancing the strength of all muscles in your body, while giving a low impact workout that doesn't hurt or impact the joints.
Age Group 60+
Pilates is unique in that it is a low impact fitness routine that does not required any crazy intense movements or motions that can impact those who may have balance, gait, or vertigo issues. This is a great time to have a fitness routine as it can help with being healthy throughout the next decades and expect a better quality of life because you are able to lift, move and reach easier than those who have no fitness regimen in place. Pilates also helps those who have started doing sports (golf, tennis, etc.) allowing for better sports performance even if it's not pro level!
I hope this helps you in your journey to finding a fitness routine. Get in touch if you have any questions feel free to let me know! I'll see you in the studio.
