What Clients in 2024 Taught Me, an Instructor
I’ve always believed we learn from our clients as much as we do from our education, experience and the physical medicine field. Without knowing me or my clients exact details (but you may if you read some of my case studies) these are some of the things i’ve learned this year.
Chronic Pain & Depression
As we know pain is a terrible circumstance to be in, chronic pain being over 3 months, is even more deteriorating to not just your physical movement but also your mood. This can be even more heavily felt when you lack a support system who can listen and understand and be caring individuals. I also find that the more clients learn about their movement and conditions the more likely they are to understand what and why of their “getting better” vs “this sucks” days. So that they can be more in the good mood and getting better days than the later.
Support Matters
Although it may sound abnoxious to ask or seek but know that support from medical providers and peer’s can help improve your outcomes. The National Institute of health has this to view.
The conclusion mentions “Results indicate that this ongoing peer support engages some people with chronic pain as they complete professional-led treatment, providing emotional, practical and social benefits to those who attend. Peer support groups can maintain benefits gained from the PMP and can reduce reliance on medication and health services.”
Which is an excellent sign and reason to seek out support from others in your circle, neighborhood or from a provider lead group.
Managing Inflammation matters
I know it may be obvious but i’ve found we often times don’t want to change everything about ourselves for the pain we experience. In the short term I have found it matters more than clients want to believe. The gist of it is that Antihistamines focused on h1 receptor blockers may benefit you in reducing inflammation
Of course theres more to learn for your unique body and needs but if changing your overall consumption and daily lifestyle may not be accessible or difficult then you may want to talk to your doctor about some of these options.
If you feel like you’d like to know more for yourself about how your movement may be affecting you more than you think we provide assessments in person in Culver City and virtually online! Let’s chat and see if we can assist you.
