Make a Difference with MVNT Principles

The field of pilates and clinical rehabilitation go hand in hand from the origins of Joseph Pilates building it up as Contrology and seeing it now being used for NFL and NBA cross training to improve sports outcomes.

This is what my 8 years of experience and hundreds of hours of continued education and clinical experience has developed my methods and principles. Not only creating a streamlined plan but keeps myself accountable to my clients for the best outcomes possible.

Know Their Medical History

Although it may be daunting from a teacher’s point of view but the knowledge you can develop from knowing what certain medical injuries, diagnosis, or treatments can change a person and their movement will assist you further in developing a unique experience to someone wanting to see you for your expertise.

Know Their Movement Background

As we know our bones are developing as we grow from infancy to adulthood. There are many patterns that could have changed someone’s movement and structure from a using a brace or other devices to assist kids develop their structures correctly and knowing the sports and impact they did in their tween and teen years. Having this idea of what they can relate to and know that it may be related to their adult compensations will help you and clients get a special routine to suit their needs.

Know What Medical Treatments They’ve Done

For those training someone with medical issues or injuries knowing their current treatment plans and past treatments can help you check in with clients to see what changes they are on. Some with physical therapy treatments may know it only works on the injured part, so maybe you also plan on working on the non treated side as well. Knowing if the massage therapist noted areas of tighness can help you relate it back to their MVNT program with you.

Assess Their Daily Patterns

This is not unique to MVNT principles but a key point to training people as a unique person. Knowing that some areas will be stiffer due to their work or knowing that they tend to only train their arms and shoulders means you have a better idea of what you should focus on in their private pilates session with you.

Know Why They May Have More Inflammation

This is a big one for those with chronic aches and pains. Knowing what may be causing them inflammation, swelling or tension can be not only beneficial for you as the teacher but also lets you check in with clients to see how it changes their areas of issues overtime. Often times just one unique change over a long period of time can make a big difference for our clients!

Discuss Their Goals

Goal setting is unique in many ways. From what they want to achieve to what their timeline is. However, it is always best to let clients know what is realistic. You can discuss what may happen in a few weeks to a few months but as things progress changes may be increasing steadily and then may flat line or dip for a while before even more progress is felt. This is common and a unique aspect for each person based on all of the past points mentioned.

Give Them a Unique Assessment

After you’ve collected the information you need this is where the assessment is formed. Knowing the person beyond what you see can help develop their own unique assessment. This is the whole factor of personalized pilates sessions. It starts with the client and then develops as you continue to see them.

Develop Their Personalized Training Plan

With a completed assessment you can now plan their personalized pilates training plan. From how frequent they are going to see you and how likely they will do home programs (or not but I highly recommend this) can be the real change your client needs. As a teacher you will develop your perspectives and plans as you build your clientele and how often you see unique bodies, but it also will change how you plan and personalize sessions for clients into the future.
