Can You Relate? Struggling with Injury and Medical Care

TLDR; As a busy working, in college, and gig working individual I was in a traumatizing car accident that lead me down to a different form of pilates teaching. Trauma informed care, client education and positive outlooks. That is how it all became to be today.

I was planning my fall semester, leaving my clinic job and seeing what birthday plans to make in august 2018. Turns out getting home early that Friday night wasn’t in the plans of what the universe planned for me. I ended up in a T-bone accident in the middle of a busy intersection in Brentwood. To add on the driver got me a new driver and that new driver wanted to flirt with me while I was traumatized and shaking in shock. A terrible accident with an even heavier trauma added on to it from someone who’s never had a good relationship with a man in her life.

That weekend to Monday I went through the process of getting an attorney, medical care and getting whatever guidance I can get from this whole ordeal. Let’s just say that birthday was one of pain and lots of tears.

At this time I was only finishing my teacher training hours, about 10 months from my last education module and working 7-3, school 5-8p and pet/babysitting. How in the hell would I have time to take care of my body?

Well I did. I went to a physical therapist for 3 months and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. No guidance, no hope and no real care. Only did a friend from teacher training who was a licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) did I get enough courage to tell my attorneys and find a better clinic to go to. It only took one month there for me to be more functional and less fearful of my movement.

Proper care and proper treatment was something you can get at the right clinic. Getting a better idea of your outcomes and the reality of your injuries well that took me several google searches, asking others, and talking to my friend who is a PTA. Turns out learning how long something lasts isn’t part of the plan of care they typically provide. Luckily my 3 years working at this clinic already provided me some background and sources for me to dive in deeper.

I learned many things this year after my accident. I took several additional continued education programs. Several global based trainings not just for pilates. I followed all that with research into PTSD and what other treatments they are using that isn’t just medication and psychological visits. Mostly because I only had medi-cal and treatment and care with it is sub par to what even a good baseline should be.

Although you’ll find some of my other deep underlying traumas in past posts. This is how MVNT STUDIO became to be. There is no clinic that could provide the time or space for what I wanted to give people suffering from injuries, aches and pains. So I built it and took the time and courage to create what is much needed in the medical care to return to fitness programming.

This is what I hope becomes the future. I’ll be working on creating premade programs so that more can find the care I provide at their own time and budget. So if you know anyone suffering and needing a different form of care, let them know I am here to help.
