Benefits of Prenatal Pilates Exercise
The diverse background from cultures, to education and regions of the world changes what we see in our prenatal care and here in the states it varies state to state and city to city. Sometimes it’s good to know what you are experiencing is real and true to your story as well as what could benefit you going through the next months of your new journey!
Connection
Sometimes it comes to us before family planning other times it comes only when we are in pregnancy. Learning to connect with the body not only allows you to know if something is wrong but also allows you to feel areas of constraint as the baby grows within you. This connection can be felt in breathing exercises, in certain planes of motion in exercise and in your daily routines. Often finding restriction in your ribs and bladder as the trimesters continue. Prenatal movement exercises focused on areas you need will allow for mobility to be maintained as well as reduce difficulties as the baby continues to grow.
Creating Space for Growth
I find this as an opportunity for both the body and the mind to connect in a different plane. Sometimes we come with areas that we consider mental blocks and as I’ve seen in my years of teaching, these are felt in the body as well. Expectant parents are connecting to their next stage of life, new work-life balances, and the possibilities of parenting the new person you have created.
Power & Strength
Knowing yourself and the person you are becoming is where we build a foundation of strength and power. Many can find this transition a challenging time. Likely in work-life balance but also in how the outside world treats you. From family, to friends, and from others you don’t know with unwarranted comments, self experiences or advice. It can be very overwhelming for many. This is where we can work on being more within yourself and your own story and experience. Ignoring the noise of others and creating what feels safe for you and your body. Movements show you your own strength the power of your own body and how resilient you can be. The changes may be drastic and sometimes more of an epiphany moment where things align to create a new vision for you.
