1898 - USA bought the Phillippines from Spain. USA trained Filipinos to the western nursing standards
1948 - Exchange Visitor Program
1965 - Immigration and Nationality Act
1970s - 60% new nurses are Filipino nurses due to strain on the medical system from the implementation of Medicare/Medicaid

Fil-Am Disparities
2008, Filipino Americans accounted for 1%–1.5% of the total U.S. Population.
An estimated 35.4% of Filipino American older adults are disabled.
Have the highest percentage (27%) among Asian Americans of grandparents living with and caring for their grandchildren who are under 18 years of age.
